"Terminator: Dark Fate" is a 2019 science fiction action film directed by Tim Miller and serves as a direct sequel to "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," effectively ignoring the events of the other Terminator sequels that came in between. The movie features a return to the franchise for Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800 Terminator.
The story of "Terminator: Dark Fate" picks up many years after the events of "Terminator 2." A new, highly advanced Terminator called the Rev-9 (played by Gabriel Luna) is sent back in time to terminate a young Mexican woman named Dani Ramos (played by Natalia Reyes), who holds the key to a future human resistance against the machines. In a twist of fate, a cybernetically enhanced soldier named Grace (played by Mackenzie Davis) is also sent from the future to protect Dani.
Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) resurfaces as a battle-hardened warrior who has been hunting Terminators for years. The trio of Sarah, Grace, and Dani embarks on a mission to stop the Rev-9 and alter the course of the future. Along the way, they receive unexpected assistance from an older T-800 (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger), who has developed a conscience.
The film is filled with action sequences, chase scenes, and intense battles as the characters strive to change the grim future predicted by the machines. "Terminator: Dark Fate" continues the series' exploration of themes related to artificial intelligence, time travel, and the resilience of humanity in the face of an apocalyptic future.
